The Rancher Orphan Bride Brides of Cactus Gap Book 1 edition by Anna St James Romance eBooks Reviews
Sometimes you don't want to start a long book and this is a good example. It has the story line, but not all the details that create the "long " story. It was quite good.
A short sweet read, enjoyable and clean.
Even women who stand strong need someone to lean on at times and don’t need to feel like a failure when they do
This book is a bit shorter than I had hoped, but the story line is still good. Another sister going west to take care of her younger siblings. The two younger boys find a home at a ranch while the older sister ties up loose ends in the east after both the parents are killed in an accident, then follows the younger ones to Texas where she meets the man who owns the ranch where her brothers live.
I skipped over this sweet Western for a long time because it was so short. I'm glad I went back to it, though. It was clean and spunky and didn't waste my patience with wordiness. I liked the fact that a gal could show compassion for a guy and stick up for him even when she didn't know how he felt about her. It was also so very human and easy to relate to, a great short read!
I enjoyed this book. I had only read about the orphan train in the last couple of years through some historical accounts. Some of the kids were ill used and were almost work slaves. Help was needed on the frontier. This story is about a sister of two boys sent on the orphan train who were lucky to have a good boss who treated them as sons. This is fictional though based on the orphan train. The sister traveled to get a job and find a place for her and her brothers in the town near the boys. It is interesting.
Enjoying this book is a matter of taste. From a construction point of view, the storyline, character development, dialog, romantic relationship, and staying true to the time and place are all poorly done. The young brothers, ages 11 & 8, act perfectly and speak like prim old ladies. In a historical work, the culture of the times matters. A young, single woman would NOT turn down marriage to live on her own. She would find it impossible to support herself and two children and she would realize it. Forcing modernity into a historical book is jarring, untrue, and lazy. We've come a long way baby. The YA readership won't understand that from reading this. A Christian themed story does not require awful writing. This is awful writing with a sweet, simplistic story.
